What is unit price
Unit price is the cost of one unit of a product: per ounce, pound, liter, sheet or item. It lets you compare different pack sizes fairly. The formula is price / quantity.
Example: Item A is $4.99 for 16 units = $0.3119 per unit. Item B is $8.49 for 32 units = $0.2653 per unit. Item B is the better deal, saving 14.9% per unit.
Shopping tips
- Make sure both items use the same unit (oz vs lb, ml vs liters).
- The bigger pack is not always cheaper per unit. Compare.
- Bulk only saves money if you use it before it expires.
- Many stores print unit prices on the shelf tag. Check it.
