What is inside the budget template for Google Sheets
The file is a standard Excel workbook, which Google Sheets opens directly. Everything works in both.

Colour key: yellow cells are for your own numbers and text. Green cells calculate automatically, so leave them alone. Sample data is included so you can see how it works, and you can delete it.
How to use the budget template for Google Sheets
- Download the .xlsx file above.
- Go to drive.google.com, click New and choose File upload, then pick the file.
- Right click the uploaded file and choose Open with > Google Sheets.
- In Google Sheets choose File > Save as Google Sheets so you get an editable copy with its own link.
- Type the month, fill in Planned, then Actual during the month.
Formulas, dropdowns and conditional formatting transfer to Google Sheets. Charts are converted, so check that the chart looks right and adjust its colors if you like. Once saved as a Google Sheet you can share it with a partner or accountant.
