Frequently asked questions.
What is an outsourced bankruptcy paralegal?
A paralegal who works remotely for your firm, case by case. We prepare the petition, schedules, means test and SOFA in Best Case from your client documents. You review, sign and file.
Can a paralegal prepare a bankruptcy petition for an attorney?
Paralegals commonly prepare cases under an attorney’s direction. The attorney reviews, signs and remains responsible for the filing. Rules differ by court and state, so check your local rules.
What software do you use?
Best Case. You receive a .bkp file you can open in your own Best Case account. Best Case is a product of Stretto. Softotech is independent and not affiliated with Stretto.
What documents do you need?
The completed client questionnaire, pay stubs for the last 60 days for everyone in the household who works, and tax returns (W-2 and 1040) for the last 2 years.
How do I send client files securely?
Use a secure file-sharing link, for example Dropbox or Google Drive with restricted access, or encrypted email. Please do not send full Social Security numbers in chat messages.
How long does it take?
Standard cases are normally returned within 24 hours of receiving complete documents. Rush service is available.
Do you handle joint cases?
Yes. We prepare joint petitions with both debtors’ income, Schedule H and, where it applies, Schedule J-2.
Do you prepare the Chapter 13 plan?
We prepare the Chapter 13 petition, schedules and means test (Forms 122C-1 and 122C-2). The plan document is available on request for an extra fee.
What if documents are missing?
We list every missing item in the attorney notes and prepare the file as far as possible, so you can see what is needed before filing.
How much does it cost?
A fixed fee per case, from $200 for a single-debtor Chapter 7. See the pricing table above. Volume pricing is available for firms sending 5 or more cases a month.
Ready to hand off your case preparation?
Send us one case. We will prepare it and you can judge the quality before ordering more.
Softotech Solutions is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We work only for attorneys and law firms, under the supervising attorney’s direction. The attorney reviews, signs and files all documents. Rules about non-attorney support differ by court and state; please check your local rules. Best Case is a product of Stretto.
