Pool Volume Calculator
Find out how many gallons your pool holds. A 32 x 16 ft rectangular pool with a 5 ft average depth holds about 19,150 gallons.
Pool volume formulas
Volume in cubic feet depends on the shape. Multiply cubic feet by 7.48 to get US gallons.
- Rectangle: length x width x average depth
- Round: 0.785 x diameter x diameter x average depth
- Oval: 0.785 x length x width x average depth
For a 32 x 16 x 5 ft rectangle that is 2,560 cubic feet, or 19,150 gallons (72,491 liters).
Average depth
If your pool has a shallow and a deep end, add the two depths and divide by two. For example a pool that goes from 3 ft to 7 ft has an average depth of 5 ft. Pools with a sharp drop or a deep hopper need a more careful estimate.
Why volume matters
Chemical doses, heater sizing and pump turnover all depend on gallons. Dosing for the wrong volume wastes money and can leave water unsafe.
