Discount Calculator
Enter the original price and the discount to see the sale price, your savings and the total with sales tax. Add a second discount to see the combined effect.
How the discount calculator works
Type the original price and the percent off. The calculator subtracts the discount to give the sale price and shows how much you save. If a store stacks a coupon on top of a sale, enter the second percentage in the extra discount box. The second discount is taken from the already reduced price, so two discounts never simply add together.
If you know the original and sale prices and want the percent off instead, use the second calculator below.
The formulas
Example: A $80 item is 25% off, so the sale price is $60.00 and you save $20.00. With 8% sales tax the total is $64.80. If an extra 10% coupon is applied after the sale, you pay $54.00 instead, which is a combined discount of 32.5%, not 35%.
Find the percent off
Enter the original price and the sale price to work out the discount percentage.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount?
Multiply the original price by the discount percentage as a decimal, then subtract the result from the original price. For 25% off $80, 80 x 0.25 = 20, so the sale price is $60.
Why do two discounts not add up?
The second discount applies to the already reduced price. A 20% discount followed by a 10% discount takes the price from 100 to 80 to 72, which is 28% off, not 30%.
How do I find the percent off from two prices?
Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original and multiply by 100. Use the second calculator above to do it for you.
Is sales tax charged before or after the discount?
In many US stores tax is charged on the discounted price, but rules vary by state and by the type of coupon. Check your receipt or local rules.
Does this work for markups?
No. A markup adds to a price. For that, use our markup and margin tools linked below.
